The fact of dedicating the paintings to a patriarch or the patriarch himself dedicates these paintings to the church means that this one occupied a special place within the monastery, or that his accession to the patriarchal see had something specific for Kaftoun. At the end of this investigation, we were able to formulate a more precise hypothesis concerning not only the origin of the paintings in the church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, but also of the icon of the Virgin and Baptism which is found in the monastery of Notre-Dame de Kaftoun and which turns out to be in a style very close to that of the frescoes.
