Many have tried to show how the Syriac favors the Septuagint and/or the Targum, is reliable or unreliable or is useful or not for textual critical study. This paper handles many of the lexical and grammatical/syntactical issues in reference to the Massoretic Text, the Septuagint, the Vulgate, and the Targum with brief references to the Ugaritic. This work compares the prosody of the Syriac to that of the Massoretic Text by way of Parallelismus Membrorum, Versform, Word Meter and Alternation Meter. This research provides some insight into the Syriac text in its semitic background, a commentary on the lexical and grammatical/syntactical issues and new material for the comparison of the Syriac prosody to that of the Massoretic Text. From these prosodical methods the evidence demonstrates a Syriac prosody very close to that of the Hebrew text. It is the intent of this student to provide a foundation for further comparative prosodical study of Hebrew and Syriac.
