The author shows that despite the schism that led to the departure of some Christians from Byzantium and caused the emergence of the Assyrian Church and the Church of the East, the “Nestorians” who reached the Tang capital Chang'an (present-day Xian) along the Silk Road, brought to Tang and Yuan China the image of Christ and Christianity, not infected with church disagreements. This is the first part of an article on Jingjiao — Luminous Religion in the Celestial Empire.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
