Their role as cultural brokers between the Republic of Letters and the Arabic provinces of the Empire raises the question of languages. The establishment is essentially a place of learning languages for Eastern Christians who live there. It has also a library, well-regarded in the academic world for its oriental manuscripts and a print shop with oriental characters until the 1620s. The trilogy accumulation-formation-diffusion demonstrates an intellectual project not devoid of ambition and means during the first four decades of this establishment. In the polycentric landscape of science in the pontifical capital, the Maronite College is one of the places for the production of "orientalist" knowledge. This Arabic and Syriac science is described in its framework of elaboration, the Catholic apologetics, an undertaking which, as it is conducted in Rome, presents itself in a polyhedral aspect.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
