The monastery was founded by the monk Afnī Mārān or Abnī Marān, born at the end of the 6th century. He left the monastery of Bet ʿAbe to settle at the foot of Mount Bekher West. The monastery is near the city of Zakho and overlooks the wide Slevane Plain, in the Dahok Governorate of the Kurdistan region of Iraq. This article presents new information about the site and synthesises previous works.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
