Academic commentators on each text refer respectively to the other work, whether in parenthetical litanies of 'parallels', in footnotes or in apparatuses. Nevertheless, a detailed contextual comparison of such passages had theretofore not been carried out--these conjectured parallels are regularly cited, but are seldom nuanced through careful analysis. This lends itself to the conflation of discrete perspectives found in Romans and in individual works of Jewish literature such as 2 Baruch (and the closely-related 4 Ezra), whilst simultaneously obscuring genuine similarities. This study offers the first detailed comparison of these passages. After critical examination, many of the proposed parallels are found to be rather vague, only superficial or simply non-existent. However, this examination also yielded evidence of an apparently close parallel between Romans 11.33 and 2 Baruch 14.8-9. In general, both authors certainly deal with a few of the same prominent themes, but only through such meticulous comparison can one know whether and to what degree these themes were similarly treated.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
