The author, who asks God to forgive his sins, is Christian, as evidenced by his Syriac name, the formulas and the presence of a cross (plus a second cross, apparently added at a later date). We might add that he was probably of Syriac culture, because in the Near East, vertical inscriptions are found only in this script. The palaeography implies a date after 800 ad, perhaps around 900-1000 ad.
