Between the 4th and 7th centuries, the constant evolution of the architectural framework, in which the sacrament of baptism was conferred can shed light on the meaning of the rites being performed, both in cities and rural settlements. Major places of pilgrimage as well as some possible influence from Cyprus are also to be considered, in order to complete or qualify this review.
