By looking at four canonical collections from the eighth–ninth century (Mardin, The Church of the Forty Martyrs mss. 309 and 310, Vat. syr. 560 A, and Paris, BnF syr. 62), this paper aims to examine the way in which patristic epistolary works were introduced in this expansion process in order to enhance the synodal canons and how such works functioned as normative literature in the newly enlarged canonical collections.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
