A city in Lebanon.
“The city of Heliopolis, in Syriac-Armaic known as Baalbek, housed one of the largest pagan cult centres in the eastern Mediterranean. Among late antique Christian authors, it was famous for the obstinacy with which the majority of the inhabitants clung to pagan rites. For instance, Joh. Eph., EH 3.27 mentions the dispatch of the imperial official Theophilus in 579/80 to lead an investigation against pagans in the city.”4
