“Flavian represented the see of Antioch as ambassador in Constantinople before being made patriarch of Antioch by Anastasius in 498. He attempted to follow a middle course between adherents and opponents of Chalcedon until he lost imperial support in 512 and was replaced by the miaphysite champion Severus. Exiled to Petra, Flavian died in 518.”7
