1Notes
In hagiography: the
widow Sophia and her
daughter Euphemia quarter a Goth
serving in the Roman army in Edessa. The Goth forces Sophia to give Euphemia to him in marriage, but he
then enslaves her. The intercession of Sts. Shmona, Guria,
and Habib saves Euphemia and
returns her to Edessa. 1
