Descriptions
In hagiography: Jacob of Edessa was commemorated as one of the greatest Syrian orthodox scholars and biblical commentators. He joined the monastery of Qenneshre, and he studied in Alexandria and Edessa. After he became Bishop of Edessa, he retired with two students to teach Greek at the convent of Eusebona, and then he wrote commentaries on scripture. He died at the monastery of Tell ʿAda.
