In this first phase of the research, concerned with the contextualization of Theodore’s of Mopsuestia’s treatise ‘Against those who say that men sin by nature and not by will’ within the context of the second phase of the Pelagian controversy and under the influence of Julian of Aeclanum, it was possible to conceive the possibility to extend the historical analysis to the entire Eastern parenthesis of the Pelagian controversy. In particular, two aspects of this controversy have been analysed: on one hand, the destiny of Pelagius, Celestius and Julian of Aeclanum in the East between 411 and 431, when, during the council of Ephesus, they were definitely condemned, on the other hand, the different perspectives from which Latin theologians, residing in the East, for instance Jerome, Orosius and Marius Mercator, have fought and refuted this heresy. These are the two main parts in which this research is divided.</note></biblStruct><bibl type="formatted" subtype="bibliography" resp="https://www.zotero.org/styles/chicago-note-bibliography-17th-edition">
